Janaki Mandir

This is a small but very popular temple situated in the centre of Janakpur. There is a big peepal tree where devotees take rest and shelter. At present this has become the center place of meeting for people. It is situated in the north west of. It’s location is very easy to access because it stands on the main road. It is near by Ram mandir and Janaki mandir.

The town of Janakpur, in the northern Nepali section of Mithila, is believed to be Janak's old capital. Now, Janakpur is a Hindu pilgrimage site with legendary history. The Ramayana records a dynastic marriage between Prince Rama of Ayodhya and Sita, the daughter of Raja Janak of Mithila. And Sita is a maithli girl.Each year Janakpur celebrates Ram’s birthday and his marriage anniversary. People come to Janakpur from all over the world to see the Janaki Mandir, a Mogul- style temple dedicated to Sita.

The present Janaki temple is said to have been constructed in 1968 B.S. (1911 A.D) at the cost of Rs. 15,00,000. It was completed in 12 years. The temple architecture is immensely influenced by the regional affliating artistic designs of the donor. This temple is architecturally unique in Nepal, showing Moghul influence though it remained by and large outside the Muslim cultural domain. Pilgrims pay homage to Goddess Janaki on the auspicious occassions of Vivah Panchami and Ram Navami. This temple is open for every Hindu devotee of the world. In Baisakh 2051(April 1994) the authorities of the temple and the residents of janakpur celebrated its centenary in grand manner which is commendable and rememberable.
